Comparing the money they make their pay is inadequate. Same goes for quality of benefits. After inception of obamacare they started pushing “wellness” program that tries to make people to do the physical so that they can record whether you have health problems like high blood pressure. That will increase your insurance premiums, but it will be out of your pocket. Family friendly totally depends on the group you work in and your manager. If you are with corporate zelots and workaholics – forget about “family friendly”. Currently all company uses open space and choice sitting where everyone has to use virtual desktops. and there is no assigned seats. Often if you come 15 minutes late someone already is occupying your seat, so you have to run around looking for place to sit. Working premises could be very noisy. Overall it’s hard to focus so many people use noise cancelling head phones. Virtual desktops are still pretty glitchy. Several days a month your would spend sitting reading articles from your smart phone because your virtual desktop would not boot and support usually takes whole day before they are ready to help you.

I liked to work at JPMORGAN. Company promote diversity and talented people from around the world has oportunity to be recognized.
Very good benefits if you work for company for many years.
Salary could be better. It understandable that JPM spend a lot for benefits.

Sad to see JPM lose all their experienced employees to their competitors because someone made a wrong decision to lay off most Dallas employees.

I worked in an entry level position at two branch locations in New York over 10 years ago (’03 –
’05) while I was still in college through graduation. The pay was low but I was there for the health benefits, stock, and other banking perks. I was promoted three times in under two years for ‘modest’ pay increases. When I wasn’t working at JPM Chase, I worked a second job at night job in a restaurant waiting on tables for the money. After I graduated, I got ‘lucky’ one day and a client of the bank offered me a job at his technology/software company for almost double what I was making at the bank. So it was a gateway for me into my current career. I did it for the resume building and don’t regret that at all.

Overall JPM was a very good place to work. I loved everyone that I worked with and made some wonderful friendships there. However, the department I was in was not very good at supporting career advancement, equal pay, or work life balance. It was a lot of very late nights and weekends which is not conducive to work/life balance (family friendly), the insurance also was not very good. It wasn’t bad, just not very good either. Someone else mentioned that you have to leave and come back to get a decent raise – I have heard this is true with others that have left and returned. I DO know that career advancement is better in other departments, but it was a little tough where I was working.

So positively, the company is very, very, very good about having networking events, and in some departments, they have an awesome flexibility work schedule and are very good at career advancement. In addition, there are quarterly meetings in which even the person at the lowest level will be informed about the direction of the company.

JPM is a very good place to work, but remember, as anywhere, you are replaceable and the bottom line is generating capital – not taking care of you as the employee.
