I worked there 7 years and bought into the hype regarding the advancement and equality of women in leadership. Unfortunately, it never came to fruition. The good ol’ boys club (especially in the sales organization) continued to prevail and opportunities were not afforded equally. I sometimes found out (or was actually told) that ADP got off “cheap” by hiring or promoting me. If you “grew up” at ADP and you were male, it always seemed like you were given chances that others were not. The organization didn’t seem to acknowledge or appreciate talent or success equally. They believe that if you are a good sales person, then you naturally would be a good leader and, time and again, that has been proven not to be true. I got tired of waiting for actions to catch up to words and left.

I’ve been at ADP 17 years and I love my job, my duties are challenging and exciting at the same time I am always learning new technologies and advancing my knowledge. My team and I have morphed over the years to be a well regarded team to be emulated. I am a woman in the technology portion of the company and I always am treated with respect, courtesy and my opinions and input matter. I have been recognized for my contributions and I am always considered first if there is a new technology to learn. I admit I am not a meek woman, so perhaps that matters. As far as someone else’s salary, I don’t believe I am payed too much differently than those on my team. I haven’t discussed my salary with anyone on the team. I was always taught that it wasn’t polite and that is how resentments start. I have, however spoken to manager, and I trust mine to be telling me the truth that we are all in the same range, at least close … it all depends on what you negotiated for yourself when you came into the interview in my opinion.

I was one of the more “career experienced” employees in my area, and saw how ADP treated people. Men were consistently paid at a higher rate than women, and consistently provided opportunities that gave them visibility to upper management and decision makers. Those coming into the workforce with less experience were made promises about promotions and opportunities that were simply impossible to keep. The workload and requirements were unrealistic, and when the two collided negatively, management (who frequently admitted the two were unrealistic) were quick to punish the worker instead of identify ways to support employees. Because of these requirements, night and weekend work was not just expected, it was required to maintain average performance.

I started my career at ADP as a single 20 something and am now married with 2 children, ADP has grown with me. I always feel supported and encouraged to put my family first. With several divisions and teams there is also a lot of room to grow in your career. Expectations are high but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I’ve had 2 children during my career at ADP & have felt very well supported throughout my career in terms of managing work life balance. Family first. We have a tremendous team culture even within the individual contributor roles. It’s a great place to work as a working mother.
