WomenHack has reached a significant milestone: our community now spans over 125 cities worldwide. From our origins as a single experimental event in Silicon Valley, we’ve grown into a global movement connecting talented women with diversity-first employers.
How We Got Here
When WomenHack launched in 2016, the concept was simple but untested: bring women in tech together with companies that genuinely valued diversity, in a format that facilitated authentic connection.
“We started off from one experimental event, branching out to a few cities, to now over 125 cities,” recalls Samantha Boivin, Event Director at WomenHack.
That first Silicon Valley event proved the demand existed. Companies wanted access to diverse talent. Women wanted access to employers who valued them. WomenHack provided the bridge.
2023: Growing Despite Headwinds
This expansion comes during a challenging year for tech. Layoffs have affected hundreds of thousands of workers. DEI programs have faced cuts. The path forward for diversity in tech has seemed uncertain.
Yet WomenHack events have seen record attendance. Why?
- Talent Availability: Skilled women affected by layoffs are actively seeking opportunities
- Employer Differentiation: Companies participating in WomenHack stand out as genuinely committed to diversity
- Community Value: Beyond job searching, our events provide networking and support that members need now more than ever
