The company I originally worked for, Pentamation, was acquired by Sungard.

As Pentamation at least it was a family-friendly small company, but it was otherwise quite sexist with very few women in management at all. Even worse, people were promoted based on who they knew and how long they were with the company…not based on knowledge, management skills, or education. Management skills, especially related to how to treat coworkers, were sorely lacking

When Sungard took over, it was worse. Rounds of layoffs that occurred over a span of about 18 months totally depleted the morale of those still employed. Needless to say, by this time there were absolutely no opportunities to advance, especially for women.

I asked to work part time 4 days per week when I returned from Mat leave but this was denied even though I offered full flexibility on which days I would work and would be available to take calls on my day off. My first client said they would have supported this. During my mat leave I was called and contacted for no obvious reason. When my boss at SunGard found out I was pregnant he asked if it was a mistake or planned.

I never felt any kind of discrimnation as a woman when I worked there… but it may depend on this specific location where equal treatment was translated in salary and recognition policies… SunGard is a good experience for me.

SunGard has the feeling of an old company that does not see women the same as men. No real opportunities for advancement. Not forward thinking from a technology perspective. I am not sure if things have changed since they are now part of FIS.

I found out I was training men who all earned more than me by tens of thousands. At that time the few women were all the lowest earners albeit not the most junior by far. It took a year of legal wrangles to get my pay on footing with the lowest paid man who worked for me! And I never did get that backdated, more legal process would have just drawn it out. Avoid any company that discourages talking about compensation – its usually because they’re hiding somethingz
