I left after realizing my work is devoted to propping up donald trump supporters, white supremacists, mens rights activists, and the alt right. You might think you could change things from the inside as an employee, but see what happened to any prominent female exec there who’s tried to influence Reddit into a positive direction — Ellen Pao, Victoria Taylor, Jessica Moreno, Bethanye Blount. I started getting sick and had to see a mental health professional to feel stable again after the onslaught of internet harassment and disgusting images/content/comments plastered across the website I’m meant to spend 50-70 hours a week building. There’s a great big cognitive dissonance among employees and managers here about Reddit’s actual impact and what we tell ourselves internally about spreading goodness in the world, so we can sleep at night. Don’t expect managers to care – they will tell you to suck it up because that’s the way the world is. Really glad I never had to report anything worse like sexual or racial harassment, given their mindset. Tech should strive to do better. I don’t recommend you work for a place that empowers the very people that want to see women and POC powerless. Use your talent and drive to make a positive difference.

I love coming to work at Reddit. It feels like a real team here – everyone shares the same goals, is doing great work and acknowledges each other when it’s due. Culture is welcoming and inclusive. I have a lot to learn here.

Really thoughtful and inclusive culture. Transparent pay structure; no negotiations. Growth opportunities abound. Strong women in leadership with allies alongside them.
