Ancestry’s culture is extremely supportive of work/life balance. It’s one of the perks that I value most, working at Ancestry. I find that women have to consistently ask for equal pay and career advancement opportunities, which is disheartening given Ancestry’s growth trajectory. Women are commonly given lower titles (and then lower pay) than their male counterparts who have similar experience and background. The executive and senior leadership team is male dominated, and women have to continuously promote themselves to receive the same recognition for the same work as their male peers.

I thought I was applying to work at Ancestry.com but pretty far into the interview process they explained I would actually be hired by another company while working for Ancestry. Things went fairly smoothly except that it was a new project within the company and they kept changing what was needed, and would require me to make multiple changes on my own dime even though I had done exactly as asked. In hindsight, I would have complained rather than just leaving as they were reasonable people. It is an honor to be able to say I worked there and I would not hesitate to try it again.
