Depending on the teams, the culture varies widely. Overall, the team I’ve been with don’t treat female engineers as equal. We’re likely to be tasked with more tedious or time consuming work, while our counterparts are much more likely to do development work which in general gets better reviews and a higher chance for a pay raise. Over the time, male engineers will surpass female engineers in ranks and pay as the female engineers don’t have the opportunity to advance because the subtle discrimination.
