There were instances where management knew that women were treated inappropriately (including sexual harassment) and did nothing to correct the behavior. A lot of unprofessional after-hours behavior went on between managers and non-management. I was often compared to a male coworker as if we were peers. This was someone who was habitually late, who’s measurable performance was frequently lower than mine, and who, unlike myself, did not take on special projects on a regular basis. I was also told multiple times by a male supervisor that I would not receive a promotion which I was overqualified for and ultimately did receive.

Lending Club is becoming less and less of what I had envisioned the company to be. The pay structure is false advertising when recruiters tell you everyone receives the same base rate yet you find out others are being paid at a higher pay rate but with less experience than you.

The bonus payout are barely enough and is a joke. They expect you to work hard and help the company hit their goals, yet the payout isn’t even worth the physical and mental stress. They only provide verbal feedback and drag your along by telling you your promotion is around the corner; but in the meantime, please continue to do all these other task that’s not part of your job description.

Lending Club was a great place to work for when I started. As time went on that changed. The amount of unprofessional things that took place there was astounding. There was a manager who was hired with no lending experience and wasn’t right fit (in fact there were a few). Yet this person seemed to advance, despite the fact that they were secretly dating a peer beneath them. People who partied often and had reputations were also promoted. Continuing to party with them once they were their supervisors. This triggered favoritism, which of course was why the wrong people got promoted.

The raises and bonuses are a joke if you are an IC. I was a top performer yet that was only reflected by constant “feedback”. Feedback isn’t helping the cost of living in San Francisco. After one review my coworker and I shared what we were making and it was the same. We made the same amount of money to do the same job. Then 4 months later out of no where, he received a $6k raise. For what? No additional responsibilities, no promotion, we still did the same job. I often let my boss know I felt it was because I was a woman. While he deserved that raise because we were significantly underpaid for the industry, I did as well. This place has become a mess. I do have to say some of the most unprofessional individuals come out of HR. It is amazing some of these people still have jobs considering the way they treat people, talk to people, and talk about people.

One of the worst experiences I have had working for Lending Club. They are unprofessional, play favorites, do not care if you have a family emergency and culturally their recruiting team is a poor sorority. It’s like Real Housewives of SF and everyone has to put each other down and do not care whom they step on along the way. Gossip takes up half of their work day and if you have to ask a question they make you seem incompetent for not knowing. From top of leadership to your peers, the recruiting team is mainly female and don’t know how to work together or help one another, despite what you see on social media. Culturally one of the worst in the entire Bay Area and I would highly suggest people to read reviews and do references on the team you are joining before you take the leap. Performance wise- if you are not hanging out with them outside of work and not rubbing noses with them you will be over looked for advancement. Best of luck to all but make sure to do your research before you make any decisions!
