Working at GoPro was such an exciting opportunity. I was passionate about success, transparency, and overcoming obstacles. Unfortunately, the culture and leadership did not support these goals. The overreaching message was “don’t rock the boat”, “don’t address root-cause problems”. I heard time after time that those who went against the ‘norm’ would be removed from the company. I can say that in my case, very true.
It wasn’t so much a particular person as much as the culture in general. Once you stood up and said,” Hey look, we have a problem, we should fix this!” the response was reminiscent of being in 3rd grade and accidentally farting during class; all desks cleared leaving you sitting in the middle of a cloud by yourself. The culture did not support mature people who could focus on company success, rather than selfish images of oneself. I was very naive and not good at navigating the politics in that kind of environment.
Cultures change, maybe things will improve as the company leadership matures.

The environment at GoPro is very “bro culture” and pretty relaxed. The people are extremely friendly and fun, but tend to lack organization. I worked in recruiting and working with so many creatives made it tough to get things done. Often times employees roll in late to meetings, travel often and are offline a lot.
