Founded more than 40 years ago, Genentech is a leading biotechnology company that discovers, develops, manufactures and commercializes medicines to treat patients with serious or life-threatening medical conditions. The company, a member of the Roche Group, has headquarters in South San Francisco, California.

Founders and Date of Incorporation:
Venture capitalist Robert Swanson and biochemist Dr. Herbert Boyer founded Genentech on April 7, 1976.

Since the company was founded in 1976, Genentech has focused its drug discovery efforts on medicines that address significant unmet medical needs. Today Genentech has multiple products on the market for serious or life-threatening medical conditions. In March 2009, Genentech became a member of the Roche Group, and Genentech now serves as the headquarters for all Roche pharmaceutical operations in the United States. About Genentech Access Solutions:
Genentech is committed to people having access to our medicines. Genentech Access Solutions is staffed by in-house Specialists dedicated to helping practices address patient access issues. This team works with patients and doctors to resolve reimbursement and insurance issues and provides assistance to eligible patients in the United States who do not have insurance coverage or who cannot afford their out-of-pocket co-pay costs. In 2014, Genentech Access Solutions helped more than 180,0001 fully insured, underinsured and uninsured patients with access issues. In 2014, our donations to co-pay assistance foundations supported more than 80,000 patients who were having trouble affording their co-pays. Since we first started providing access and reimbursement support almost 20 years ago, Genentech has helped more than 1.2 million patients access the medicines they need.
