My experience with GE Digital was not stellar; and it simply was due to the management and leadership of a new division at the time. Unfortunately I am no longer with the company simply due to the mismanagement of the division and the horrific communication structure. Meaning – there was NO communication. Meetings to review projects with management were always cancelled; and excuses were made. Rescheduling would occur, only to have those meetings missed. Once you did have management’s ear, they would be focused on something else, or only allow you a couple of minutes to discuss essential business-essential tasks. Meetings would be regularly promised but never transpire. However, there was always time for large, extravagant dinners out with the group, with free-flowing booze for all. Then, we would be subjected to have to listen to the head of the department boast about their personal stories and interactions with either their family, celebrities or other people you don’t even know.

I understand in talking with some of my former colleagues that they have implemented changes to make this department more efficient and to run more effectively. And, as I write this review, the management has experienced a turn-over and change in leadership, and this is truly for the better.

From what I witnessed, GE Digital works hard to be respectful to women, and they also have different internal groups around the country that you can participate in if you so choose to connect with other women in your area. They hold fairly regular events, unfortunately they may be in a part of the state or city that is too challenging to attend; but I appreciated they were held.

From my experience, the pay was fair and justified; but when the rubber met the road the career advancement just was not there. There was absolutely no support and no where to turn. Everything stopped with the head of the department, and that person was unreachable. The work-life balance was non-existent, and regular work weeks were standardly 90+ hours/weeks. It was expected and non-negotiable, and the work load was immense. While I was happy to execute what needed to happen, there was no balance, no sleep, and just no time to connect with anyone in my life who was not involved in my GE Digital life at the time. It truly was not what I expected for my experience with such a high-profile company.

What was also surprising is that the health insurance coverage for such a large company was mediocre at best. Even with the top-tier plan, nothing was covered, and everything was a fight. For the one medication I have been on, and need to be on, it took over 3-months to have this prescription finally covered by the plan. My doctors and I had to prove time and time again why I needed this medication, and it was a very invasive process. When employees would discuss this internally, many said they were on their spouses’ plan specifically because the coverage was significantly better.

I wish my experience with the organization would have been better. I expected it to be better. However, the managers hold the key to everything. I still have solid connections with my former colleagues in the company and treasure those relationships; but it certainly was a challenging company to work for.

GE Digital is very welcoming and respectful of women. They have taken deliberate steps to give opportunities to young women who may be interested in a career in technology. There are affinity groups including a Women’s group that holds regular events.

I have always felt respected and supported and I have been there for almost 5 years.

I give family friendly four stars because work/life balance is supported but there are not a lot of family events.

As far as equal pay, I don’t know because I don’t know what my co-workers are making. I can say that when I have pursued promotions my managers have backed me up 100%.
