Overall my experience working at Expedia has been positive. I’ve been a virtual employee for a year now and have worked in two different regions. I do know that there is more pressure for in-office employees to grind than for the virtuals. Virtuals are able to have a more flexible lifestyle and work/life balance. I honestly would not want to work in one of the offices, despite the fact that they are fairly lax depending on the region. I think if you’re used to working in an office, you’d love it. The expectations are very high and often times your KPIs are a bit ridiculous and almost unattainable, but they’ll usually adjust after a bad quarter or two and if you’re good at bringing data to the attention of your managers. I have fantastic benefits, which is the main reason I won’t be leaving the company any time soon. PTO is generous, especially after 3 years (calendar, not date of hire). Opportunities for bonuses are quarterly and there is an annual bonus and merit increase as well. I do feel that men are promoted more often than women and trust me when I say that every woman at the company recognizes that there are no women at the executive level–Melissa Maher hardly counts. Women rarely, if ever, have a chance to ascend beyond senior director level. I do like our CEO–he is very open-minded and inclusive, especially being Iranian himself. I’d say there are more pros than cons, but there is still room for improvement.

Firstable sorry for my english !
II have a very positive feedback of Egencia. I have worked there for 10 years and Egencia has
allowed me to occupy several positions in which I flourished. I am in a company where I can combine my professional life with my personal life. I still note an ability to make men move faster to positions of responsibility but I know that this is a topic on which the Branch is working seriously. The day when there will be parity man-woman at the top of the chain, Egencia will ensure an extraordinary success!

Having been in the company for a while, I was the first in my office to have a child and having to combine family life with work and I found the company to be very supportive. It’s all about finding the right balance, right? so flex working arrangements have been introduced and encouraged. In terms of gender balance, I believe this refers to tech jobs. I am far removed from these to comment on it. On my section it’s pretty much 50/50.

For the role I was in for my 11 months with Expedia, I was told that my pay was on the higher end, but then I found out about someone making more despite my qualifications being better. As for career advancement, it really depends on the team and the location of the office. I was in a regional office and there were limited opportunities there and when I talked with my manager about my career development, he pretty much discouraged me from every leaving the team, which is why I left. It was also very challenging to interview for internal positions. I did see more advancement on teams with better leadership although it did not seem to be very common. I did not have a spouse or kids at the time I was with Expedia, but the benefits were generous and the company culture seemed flexible enough to accommodate varied schedules due to any family issues.
