After some years and thinking that I was going to stay there forever, well, I got pregnant, lost the position I held. And after maternity leave, even if I was supposed to be protected by law, I was made redundant. They paid me some compensation but I wasn’t able to recover that easily after that nor to get a job so soon. The HR manager, a woman herself, had no mercy nor showed any empathy.

I did not like the politics within the Sales teams and their personal interests.

I was part of the sales team 2001 – 2003. I was the only female on an all male sales team. It was a very difficult work environment. At one point I was felt up by a male peer in the
elevator. I immediately notified EMC HR department and shorty after I reported the incident to HR I was released from my position.

I worked at EMC 2011-2012. At the time the health benefits were very good. Initially I felt very lucky to have been chosen to work there … The team I worked with was collaborative. But within the first year I learn we were an isolated pod and not viewed favorably by other parts of our division due to a good old boy hierarchy. Soon my manager was walked out the door and I was on the blacklist. My new manager said to me during my first one on one that he didn’t think I was “strong enough” to succeed at the company. I guess he was baiting me to see if I would simply leave. At the first opportunity he let me go. Before this I could do no wrong and suddenly I could do no right. So would I give EMC / Dell a thumbs up to any woman. Absolutely not.

When I first started with EMC it was a great culture. I was proud to have been chosen to join the company. Then in 2009-11 things started to change. There was a disconnect and employees started looking for other opportunities in other companies. EMC tried to implement better communications, provide social interaction, and promote women into managerial roles. However, from the mass exodus of employees who grew discontented with the lack of recognition, managerial favoritism, and no raises, the company lost its luster.
