I worked at Dow Jones for 5 years over the period that the company was acquired. Overall I was well paid and the benefits were excellent. At the time my group was very top heavy with experience so there was little opportunity for advancement. Despite that I had a great 5 years there. Our team was excellent and we are still in touch despite being dispersed throughout the industry.

I worked at Dow Jones Markets for 18 months in 1996 – 1998. It was the best job I ever had . Very high salary, very generous employee benefits, and good training. They flew me down to their head office for one day, so I could meet the staff I dealt with every day on the phone . They planned to send me to Singapore and London to meet the staff at those locations, but unfortunately they sold the division to Bridge Technologies who laid off all the staff and eventually went bankrupt. The strange thing about my department (Computer Operations on the Raised Floor) was that they had not had a woman working there for 18 years! It took a while for them to remember not to address their memos to Gents. But when we got a second woman a few months later, they got used to having women around and stopped sending memos addressed to Gents.

The year I spent working at Dow Jones from 2014-2015 was absolutely the worst year of my life. So happy I got out as quickly as I did.

I worked at Dow Jones for many years and left in 2016. When I joined, people were complaining about how good the company was before and how everything was going down. We had many management changes, we were acquired, and I never had the impression that the company cared about its employees.
In my group we were all paid the same, but I’m not sure this happened across the board (hence my 3 stars). Career advancement was poor, there weren’t many options and if there were they weren’t advertised within the company. Supportive culture was relative to the group you were working in. I was lucky in my team, but I heard others complaining about having to do everything by themselves, especially sales people not supported by their associates. Family friendly: the company was offering the opportunity to work from home, but there have been nasty comments on women with children, that instead of working 12 hours per day, had the need to leave at 5, even when they were keeping working in the evening from home.
I also heard that dealing with HR in preparation for maternity leave was a hurdle. I dealt with HR only a few times and my experience was fine, but it did depend on the person you were dealing with.

I worked at Dow Jones for more than ten years and couldn’t have had a better experience. That said, there have been significant management changes since I left in 2012, so I don’t know whether the environment is the same today.
