I worked for Capital One for 4 years. I expressed my desires for advancement multiples times. Management would always say I was not ready. I requested to be added on projects in order to help my chances to move up the corporate ladder. Each time I asked I would be turned down or the project I expressed interest in was given to someone else. I have always been a team player but when you get turned down multiple times by your manager, it is no longer worth the all the hard work. I also applied for multiple promotions. The interview process would be great with positive feedback but I was always advised they would go with someone else instead. I am no longer an employee at Capital One but I do believe the company has a strong culture and supports families effectively. On the other hand, I slowly learned that Capital One management would open positions but already know who they would hire without evaluating all candidates. It was all about networking and who you knew instead of knowledge of the position and merit. The pay was another negative factor since I knew for a fact that I was underpaid in comparison to the industry average.

I have worked for Capital One for 19 years. With almost all of my managers- male or female there has always been a theme of family friendly/family first. There are high expectations for C1’s associates but they come along with high rewards. I have been promoted numerous times since I have been at Capital One and I can say without hesitation, I have never had to pick up a golf club to succeed. Capital One Tech leadership is heavily investing in both Diversity and Inclusion and are making efforts to help change the landscape so all feel included to work as a technologist. I am proud to say I work for Capital One.

Capital One was not a great place to work. When the only female VP was asked for advice on how she did it in a man’s world , at a women’s conference , she said pick up a golf club. Really!! Many of the men I worked with were chauvinists and could have cared less abut equality. My manager at one point had no compassion for me when my dog was sick. I used to go home at lunch to let her out, give her pills, not really taking away from work, in my review he told me I was never there and I should have let my dog die. Maybe or maybe not sexist, but he was an ass!

I have worked for several large companies, and Capital One has been the best thus far. They have a culture that balances professionalism and fun. They are very supportive and I have finally found a company where we actually work as a team. I recommend Capital One as a great place to work to all who will listen.

Capital One is a progressive company that is making mass strides to be a top competitor in regards to benefits and culture. I have been happy with the support that I have received from peers and upper management. I am proud to say I work for Capital One and excited to be apart of the change.
