Airbnb

I have been at Airbnb for 2 years. They just did a pay equity study, and do every pay cycle which gives me confidence on equal pay.

In terms of career advancement, it differs team to team, but if you are on a growing team then it is a great place to be for that.

Can’t speak to family as I don’t have kids, but I do have a happy dog 🙂

Airbnb is a great place to work and I’ve been thrilled with the growth opportunities I’ve had since joining ~2 years ago. The company is growing quickly and there is a lot of impact to be made. There are great benefits and they are constantly improving as the company matures.

I’ve been at Airbnb for 3 years and have advanced leaps and bounds in my career during this time. I joined the company in an entry-level support role, and now I am leading international programs working with Sr. Managers and Executives. Yes this took a lot of hard work on my part, but I also credit great mentors on my team who set me up to have impact. I’ve had to ask for it, but when I do, I get the training and resources I’ve needed to gain technical knowledge in areas I want to grow. These are skills like: SQL, Tableau and Project Management. In addition to career development, I feel like a human working for a company who’s mission inspires me everyday.

The one area I had to rate 3-stars is equal pay. Moving up through the company means I’m on the low end of the salary range for the role, which is pretty typical of internal mobility anywhere. I do wonder what a man in my position would be paid. At least I’m able to have frank conversations with my manager about it, and feel supported in finding a way to close the gap.

I don’t children, but I’ve watched many friends here become mothers and continue to pursue their career goals. I do have a husband, and I really enjoy how great my team is at logging-off outside of the office to give people space to do what they need to do in their personal lives.

I can only speak for my own experience, but I also know that employees rate that they feel that they “belong” at Airbnb very highly – it is a very supportive and welcoming culture.

My experience at Airbnb was a lot like high school — cliquey, immature. It wasn’t about making the best work when I was there, it was all about the politics. For a company that claims to be so forward-thinking, the misogynistic attitude toward women, especially young women, was disappointing to say the least.

I did not have a child while at Airbnb, but I’v hears that the maternity and paternity polities are really great. Maybe the one saving grace for women at that company.

Really feels like high school – very clique and there is an inside circle where these bad managers, party all day long, can do no wrong because they help ”maintain” the cultural values. Lots of expectations to drink and stay late to socialize and they don’t respect commuters or different opinions. The women leaders themselves do not stick together and are looking out only for themselves. Not a good place at all.

You won’t have a future there, but it will be a good medal on your resume. There’s plenty of work, so you’ll learn how to do the work until you master it. Once you master it, you should leave as they don’t have a good structure for promotions, and it’s well known internally that the managers are sub par and powerless. I don’t think anyone who is talented is going to be managed by a manager who doesn’t know how to teach them more. This means that subpar managers become the ceiling.

Very little diversity in leadership, be it women or minorities. People are genuinely wonderful- talented, smart etc. but are definitely from privileged backgrounds.

It’s been a really phenomenal experience working at Airbnb. The culture and the people are significantly better than anywhere else that I’ve ever worked at.

The hours feel very humane and there is a lot of thought and consideration put into caring for employees. I would recommend working here to anyone!

People are friendly on the surface but the culture is hierarchical and leadership is still mostly male-dominated. I’ve never been so micro-managed in my entire career – leadership at the C level has no problem getting deep into the weeds and redoing your work. I’ve also been told that I’m “aggressive” and “intimidating” for holding my ground and speaking my mind. I’m planning to leave because I don’t have a future there and frankly, the culture is demoralizing.

Great company. I had two babies while working here and the amount of support I have gotten is incredible, not just from a perks and benefits perspective but it did not hold me back in my career.
